Child Support Programme

A supportive program for the Mountain children in the year 2002, which is declared as the year of Mountains. It has been felt that there is a large section of child population which is left uncared and unattended by any social support or security mechanism. This section largely comprises of children belonging to the poor and marginalized communities that have been deprived of adequate job or employment opportunities with no or very little cultivable land belonging to them. As a result there is a lot of pressure on all members of the family including children to get involved in some or the other kind of economic activity for their survival. This pressure snatches away the innocent childhood from these children, denies them the basic right to education and forces them into a cruel world of hard labour. There are also children who are left with no family support system and are forced by circumstances to work under difficult conditions, often exploited by their distant relatives or employer. The condition of such children is really pitiable and needs some organized external support system to help them come out of this trap.

HIMCON has already initiated the program in collaboration with HPSS in the Lambgaon region of Pratapnagar block in the Tehri District of Uttarakhand. In 25 villages we have opened schools and vocational training centers covering approximately 1000 children belonging to remote and backward areas.

About the Implementing Organizations

HIMCON represents an organization dedicated to the cause of Himalayan people and Himalayan ecosystem. Improvement of the quality of life of the masses of this region, through small initiatives in the region. originating from within the society and mostly supported by it, being the main goal of the organization.

Initiated more than a decade back, HIMCON represents selfless service of the Himalayan people and a quest towards improving their quality of life.

HIMCON intends to run the Child Support Program (CSP) in collaboration with HPSS, "Himalayee Paryavaran Shiksha Sansthan" which is registered under society registration Act 1860 and is located at 'Lambgaon' in the mid Himalayan region. HPSS is constantly being involved in the constructive work of the region.

HPSS is working in assistance with'Mahila Sanghatan', village women in order to stop the exploitation of Bio-diversity. Apart from this the construction of Traditional 'Chaal' & afforestation work is also being under taken. HPSS has always raised its voice for the rights of villagers on Land, Water and forest issues and presently is focusing on education and support programe for the needy children.

HIMCON intends to sustain the Child Support Programme with the co-operation and support of individuals and organizations by developing an extensive network of Sponsors for our programs and activities. Apart from mobilizing financial support from people across the world, we would also involve the local communities in contributing and successfully executing the program. The intention is to develop this program as a joint venture with active participation of the local communities, the existing voluntary organizations/ NGO's and the Government. At present HIMCON will focus its programs for the children in the Himalayan communities starting from the Uttaranchal region in the central Himalayas.
